EASTERN USA TOUR A SUCCESS
Shane and his band The Lucky Kings hit the road and toured east of Texas for their first road trip together. For the first time, Christian, Eric and Gary saw the thrill of touring across half of the country - in two weeks time! Shane and the band would like to thank all who attended their shows for their support! Shane and Eric were excited to get back to Virginia to see their families. And Shane was happy to show his friends and bandmates Ocracoke Island, a sort of second home for Shane. Donations through Go Fund Me paid for the expenses of the road. Thank you to our families and friends who put us up at their homes. We slept in guest rooms, on floors and in cheap motels and loved life on the road!

NEW ARTICLE BY ROB HEDELT
Rob Hedelt of The Free Lance Star has written a series of articles on Shane over the years. The latest is an updated column.
"The musician, first profiled in a column in 2006, is Shane Cooley. I first met Cooley when he was an underclassman at Rappahannock High School in Warsaw.
Even then, it was easy to see that he had talent and drive far beyond his years. The youngster was constantly connecting with musicians young and old, amateur and accomplished."

ALTERNATE ROOT ONLINE MAGAZINE
Shane Cooley (from the album Kings Highway) - The road to album number seven for Shane Cooley began with writing his first song at age thirteen and recently staking out Austin, Texas as a base camp for his songwriting and live performances. Kings Highway, his most recent release, presents Shane Cooley with the same way of bending and twisting his vocals around the story. He cries out not to “Hesitate” over a persistent guitar strum, rises on distorted clouds as he sees all the pennies in his path sitting tails up on “Never Get”, and strides across hard chords as to request “Please Lead Me On”. A vocal delivery that leans out over curves to hit higher notes has followed Shane from album to album. That way of telling tales with a slight naivety in the soft way to words fall repeats on Kings Highway, though the tales have the benefit of a meatier backings with the instrumentation and Bob Rupe (Sparklehorse, Cracker, The Silos) production. “Don’t Care” rattles and spits goodbye, “Leave This Place” bounces on a bubbling beat as its sidesteps ‘treachery on every corner’ as it heads for an exit, while Shane’s voice hushes to a whisper using the night to feel less lonely while admitting ‘I’m so tired but my friends still want to dance’ as he flows on “Rivers of Wine”.

AUSTIN MUSIC MINUTE
Who: The story goes like this – KUTX Eklektikos host John Aielli himself admitted he fell in love with the music of Shane Cooley one summer when he heard his music at a local coffee shop (the Austin Music Minute would like to insert a shoutout to Cherrywood here, please). Aielli was captivated. “I’ve worked in radio since 1963, and over the years I’ve learned to recognize talent,” he said recently. “There was something in his sound that made me want to listen…” There’s proof positive to this testimonial with Cooley’s release of Kings Highway, an album rich in roots, Americana, a bit of rock and eclectic touches of pop.
What: Cooley, a Virginia native, recently returned to Austin after recording Kings Highway back home. He hit the ground running to share his latest work in the Live Music Capital, and just did a live performance in Studio 1A for Eklektikos for a very delighted Aielli. It all comes full circle. Now it’s your turn to see Cooley live.
When & Where: Cooley and his band The Lucky Kings perform tonight (Wednesday, February 27) at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Another excellent bill, featuring Holiday and The Cover Letter.
Why: All local and all fantastic – and do remember to pick up your own copy of Kings Highway. Recommended.
Shane has been hard at work for the past year working on a new album. Released on February 27th. CD Release party held at Spider House Ballroom in Austin, TX.
